Camera Kangaroo started with a simple belief: that shooting film makes you fall back in love with photography. In a world of endless digital scrolling and AI-perfect images, there's something honest about loading a roll of 35mm film, framing a shot that actually counts, and waiting to see how it turns out. We built Camera Kangaroo, from our base in Sydney, to put that feeling back in people's hands, one beautifully restored vintage film camera at a time.

Why we only stock Japanese film cameras

Every camera we sell is sourced directly from Japan, and that's a deliberate choice, not a coincidence. Japan produced the golden age of the 35mm compact point-and-shoot, the Olympus MJU, the Pentax Espio, the Canon Autoboy and so many more, and Japanese cameras were famously well cared for by their original owners. That means lower wear, cleaner bodies, and mechanics that have stood the test of time. By importing only from trusted Japanese sources, we can offer you vintage film cameras that look and shoot beautifully, instead of the tired, untested gear you'll find in most second-hand bins.

Every camera is tested, refurbished and ready to shoot

We don't just import cameras and list them. Each one is inspected, cleaned and test-fired in Australia before it goes online, then graded honestly so you know exactly what you're getting. From the lens and light meter to the flash, film advance and shutter, we check that everything works the way it should. If a camera isn't good enough for us to gift to a friend, it doesn't make it to the shop. And because we stand behind our work, every camera comes with a free 30-day warranty and fast Australia-wide shipping, with same-day dispatch on orders placed before 2pm AEST.
